Wallace had been receiving hospice care and passed away from natural causes, Yanac told Daily Voice.
Her family confirmed her passing in an emotional Instagram post, calling her their “matriarch” and the woman who dedicated her life to preserving the legacy of her son, born Christopher Wallace.
🕊️ "It is with immense sadness that we share this news with you, and ask that you give our family the space and time needed to grieve this monumental loss," the statement read. "Please know that we will reach out in the coming days to share how we can all honor Ms. Wallace. Thank you for your extraordinary support and love."
Though she initially dismissed her son's music as “noise,” Wallace later embraced his artistry and worked tirelessly to uphold his impact. She founded the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, providing educational resources to children, and executive-produced the 2021 Netflix documentary Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell.
In a 2017 interview, she recalled the first time she truly listened to her son’s lyrics after his death: “I cried so much that day just listening to the music… And I said, ‘Oh my God — that was a talented young man to put those words together.’”
Wallace also honored other late artists, including Aaliyah, Tupac Shakur, and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, through her foundation’s events.
